Over years of cooperation through integrating superior educational resources of both parties, Finland-China Education Association (FICEA) and National Institute of Education Sciences (NIES) co-founded the Center of Sino-Finnish Education Innovation in Beijing in April, 2017. The center of this collaboration is around the theme of educational innovation, and the association is going to devote itself on theoretical research, decision of service, practical support, as well as educational communication and proclamation.
On the 20th of April, 2017, Center of Sino-Finnish Education Innovation was co-founded by FICEA and NIES in Beijing. A launch meeting, also called the “Curriculum Reform Seminar of Finland-China Basic Education”, was simultaneously held at the NIES.
The Finnish delegates attending the meeting were Mika Tirronen, the Counselor of Education and Scientific Affairs from Embassy of Finland Beijing-China; Jari Andersson, the Chairman of Sastamala city council, Principal of Sylvään Koulu, President of FICEA; Dong Li, the Vice-President and Secretary General of FICEA; Heikki Ervast, the Dean of Teacher Training school of University of Lapland. The Chinese delegates attending the meeting were Huisheng Tian, the president of NIES; Binglin Zhong, the President of The Chinese Society of Education; Fayou Yu, the director of the institute office and Party Committee of NIES; Yan Wang, the Director of International Exchange Division of NIES; Xiaofei Wang, the Director of Research Department of NIES; Su Wang, the Director of International and Comparative Education of NIES, Director of Chinese Future School Laboratory; Chunyan Gong, the president of Chongqing Educational Evaluation Institute; Xiya Liu, the Principal of Chongqing Xie Jia Wan Primary School, and many more. Furthermore, educational experts of basic education curriculum reform, top principals and teachers across the country, as well as some well-known media and journals participated in the meeting. The meeting was hosted by Director Fayou Yu, Yan Wang, and Xiaofei Wang.
The opening ceremony for the Center for Sino-Finnish Education Innovation officially started at nine o’clock. Counselor Mika Tirronen and President Huisheng Tian gave the opening speech respectively. Afterwards, the representatives of Chinese and Finnish parties jointly unveiled the nameplate of the new center.
In the following seminar, the experts of both countries held in-depth discussion and interaction on the students’ core competence, international exchange, curriculum reform of basic education and relevant popular topics. Jari Andersson, the Chairman of Sastamala city council, Principal of Sylvään Koulu, President of FICEA; Dong Li, the Vice-President and Secretary General of FICEA; and Heikki Ervast, the Dean of Teacher Training School of University of Lapland; Binglin Zhong, the President of The Chinese Society of Education; Chunyan Gong, the Dean of Chongqing Educational Evaluation Institute; the Vice Secretary of Party Working Committee of Beijing Chaoyang Education Committee; as well as Xiya Liu, the Principal of Chongqing Xie Jia Wan Primary School gave thematic reports.
Su Wang, the Director of International and Comparative Education of NIES made a final conclusion, indicating that the education should be student-centered, particularly focusing on students’ interaction with each other.
